The Noblesville Lions Club recently announced a generous donation to the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana (DYFI), presenting a check that will provide full scholarships for three local children to attend summer camp this year.
The donation aims to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent children living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) from attending “Camp Until a Cure,” located right here in Noblesville. These “camperships” cover the costs for three campers to participate in a program that combines traditional summer fun with vital medical education and peer support.
Investing in our youth
For the Noblesville Lions Club, supporting the DYFI camp is a natural extension of their mission to serve the local community.
“The Lions are dedicated to improving the lives of our neighbors, especially our youth,” said a club representative during the check presentation. “Knowing that three children will get to experience the magic of camp – where they can feel like ‘just a kid’ while learning to manage their health – is exactly why we do what we do.”
About the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana (DYFI)
The DYFI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and empowering children with Type 1 Diabetes and their families. Their primary facility, the Indiana Youth Diabetes Camp, is situated on 211th Street in Noblesville.
Since its founding, the DYFI has been a cornerstone for the Indiana T1D community. The camp provides a safe environment where children learn to manage insulin pumps, monitor blood sugar, and calculate carbohydrates, all while participating in swimming, hiking, and team sports. Most importantly, it connects them with peers who understand the daily challenges of living with a chronic condition. DYFI maintains a strict policy that no child is ever turned away from camp due to an inability to pay. Their website is dyfi.org.
About the Noblesville Lions Club
The Noblesville Lions Club has been a fixture of the community since 1942 and is part of the larger Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service club organization. The local club is well-known for its various community initiatives, including:
- Vision Programs: Providing vision screenings and eyeglasses for those in need.
- Community Impact: The club works with Gleaners twice a month to distribute food and can openers as well as keeping several streets in Noblesville clean through the Adopt-a-Highway program.
- Grants and Scholarships: Funding local parks, student scholarships, and organizations like the DYFI, Riley Children’s Hospital, and Leader Dog for the Blind.
