The Guerin Catholic girls tennis scored a significant victory on Friday, April 10, beating defending state champion Jasper 4-1 in a match played at Brownsburg.
The Golden Eagles got victories from No. 2 singles Cece Phillips 6-1, 6-2, No. 3 singles Anna Kolb 6-0, 6-2, No. 1 doubles Grace Docktor/Katie Kolb 6-4, 6-3 and No. 2 doubles Abby Quigley/Maddy Hood 6-4, 6-3.
Guerin Catholic is ranked No. 6 on this season’s first Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association poll that was released on Sunday. Brebeuf Jesuit, last year’s state runner-up, is ranked No. 1, while Carmel is No. 2. Other ranked Hamilton County teams are Westfield (ninth), Fishers (tied for 17th) and Hamilton Southeastern (29th).
