Many veterans tell us, “My story isn’t that important,” or “I don’t know where to start.” We believe your story matters deeply – to your family, to our community, and to history – and we would like to make it easy for you to begin sharing it.
On Monday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to noon, the Clay Township Military Library and Museum, 10801 N. College Ave., Carmel, will host a special “Map Your Memoir – Veterans Edition” workshop at the Museum.
This is our first collaboration with New Mint Media, an Indianapolis-based organization that helps people turn their life stories into printed memoirs without having to “write a word” on their own. Their Map Your Memoir Writing Workshop has helped people of all ages start capturing family history and personal memories in a friendly, low‑pressure setting.
Workshop highlights:
- Designed especially for veterans and their families, with prompts that focus on your time in service and its impact on your life.
- Interactive and relaxed – no writing experience needed; you can jot notes, talk through memories, or bring photographs to help spark stories.
- Guided by Angela Ridenour of New Mint Media, who specializes in helping people organize their memories into a story that can later be shared with loved ones.
All you need to bring are your memories and, if you wish, a few photos or mementos from your time in uniform. You are welcome to attend with a spouse, adult child, or friend. Sometimes having a “battle buddy” or family member beside you makes it easier to remember and to talk.
Why we are offering this:
- Our Museum’s mission is to preserve veterans’ experiences so future generations can hear them in your own words.
- Many veterans are modest or reluctant to talk about their service; this workshop offers a gentle, structured way to begin, at your own pace.
- New Mint Media is expanding its work with veterans in Hamilton County, and we are honored to be their first partner in this effort.
To reserve your spot (space is limited), please call the Clay Township Military Library and Museum at (317) 435-7194 or email claytwpmilitarymuseum@gmail.com.
If you know a veteran or Gold Star family member in Hamilton County who might appreciate this opportunity, please let them know about this event. Your story – and their story – deserves to be heard and preserved.
