HSE High School card club visits Independence Village of Fishers East

Independence Village of Fishers East by StoryPoint Group recently welcomed students from Hamilton Southeastern High School Card Playing Club for an afternoon of cards, conversation, and connection with residents.
Residents and students gathered around tables to play poker and euchre for friendly competition. One resident shared that the experience reminded him of teaching his own grandchildren how to play cards, while another said the students’ energy made it the highlight of her week.
The visit was made possible through a special connection with the card club, facilitated by Nicole Hackney, the card group’s coordinator and daughter of a resident at the community. Together, students and residents found common ground through games that encouraged participation at every comfort level and created a welcoming atmosphere for everyone involved.
The success of the afternoon has sparked excitement for future visits, with hopes that the students will return in the spring to continue building these intergenerational relationships.
