While the biggest news coming out of the Thursday, Feb. 5 meeting of the Hamilton County Election Board was the Hamilton County Democrat delegates issue, several other things of note took place at that meeting.
Greg Purvis gave his proxy to Julie Chambers, former Hamilton Southeastern school board member.
Purvis also told the board he plans to draft a resolution to require schools to play host to in-person polling locations on both Primary and General Election Days. Schools are valid potential voting locations under Indiana law, but have resisted being polling locations on security grounds. The forthcoming resolution suggests schools use e-learning on the two election days each year, which would both address security concerns and provide stable, permanent polling locations.
The travel board will not go out of county if people are hospitalized out of county. The travel board will only travel inside Hamilton County.
Resolution 1-2026 to omit the Sheriff position was voted down because the Election Board thought more security was needed at polling places.
All the late campaign reports were approved except for Theodore Lane Skeeters, who may have moved out of state. He will be given certified mail notice to appear at the next meeting.
The resolution for consolidation of polling places and inspectors was approved.
A resolution to allow 16- and 17-year-old students to serve as poll workers per current law and a resolution adopting pay policies for election workers were both approved.
There was a resolution establishing in-person early voting sites and dates and hours of operation and a resolution concerning security protocol for voting equipment, both of which were approved.
Discussion was held on a post-election audit of the 2026 election with VSTOP and that was approved. According to Election Board member Ray Adler, “We want to not only check our machines before, but check our machines afterwards to make sure our elections are absolutely air-tight.”
