Sheridan legend hired at Southwood
The REPORTER
Larry “Bud” Wright is returning to the football sidelines as a head coach.
The Sheridan football icon has been hired as the new coach at Southwood High School, located about five miles southeaster of Wabash. Val Tsoutsouris, the sports editor of RTC4 in Rochester, broke the news with a post on X (formerly Twitter) just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Wright spent 59 seasons as the Blackhawks’ coach. He is the winningest football coach in Indiana with 463 career victories and led Sheridan to nine state championships.
Wright stepped down as the Blackhawks’ coach in December 2024. He served as an assistant at North Miami during the 2025 season.
