FISHERS – The Hamilton Southeastern boys wrestling team hosted Carmel on Wednesday in the final regular-season dual meet for both teams.
The Royals won the meet 39-25, but the squads will see each other again very soon. Both Southeastern and the Greyhounds will compete in the Frankfort sectional on Jan. 31.
“The atmosphere was great,” said HSE coach Nick Brobst. “I thought that the crowd was into it, that the boys were into it. It’s always fun when we get to wrestle a county rival.”
The meet was close during the first four matches, but the Royals pulled ahead with three straight victories after trailing 9-7. A.W. VanKirk and Nolan Culp got pins at 285 pounds and 106 pounds respectively, then William Lakes won a tough decision match at 113. Those victories pushed the Royals ahead 22-9 and they stayed in front from there.
Southeastern won 10 of the 14 matches. The Royals won four total matches by fall; Cale Beattie got the pin at 126 and Sylas Young won by fall at 138. Max Inman picked up a technical fall at 144. Reid Snider won the 190-pound match by major decision.
Cohen Davis started the meet with a decision victory at 165. Other decision wins went to Owen McGuire at 132 and Dylan Lane at 157.
Carmel’s Will Massey won the 215-pound match by fall, while Carlo Federici claimed the 120-pound bout in a major decision. Eli Isen won at 175 by decision and Jaxen Timmons received a forfeit at 150.
“The entire goal was just to come out, scrap and let’s see what we can work on,” said Greyhounds coach Kyle Ayresman.
