Fishers boys basketball is off to another incredible season, as the Tigers are still undefeated with a 12-0 record.
A big part of the top-ranked Tigers’ success is junior point guard Cooper Zachary. He’s averaging 14 points per game this season and is leading the team in assists, steals, and three-pointers.
Fishers lost in the state championship last year, and as the Tigers look to reclaim their 4A state title, Zachary credits his success to hard work put in by his coaches and teammates.
“We’re a very well put together group,” Zachary said. “Coach Winegar does a great job on and off the floor of getting us ready for games. Me as a junior, I’m 71-2 in my three years, and all that credit goes to Winegar and all the coaches that do all the scouts for us and get us prepared.”
His head coach had nothing but great things to say about him.
“He’s probably the hardest working kid I’ve ever been around,” Fishers boys basketball head coach Garrett Winegar said. “Not just how he plays the game, obviously if you watch him play the game, it’s extreme effort at all times, but how he approaches practice and what he does on his own time, and he just works so hard that guys are going to feed off that.”
Fishers won state in 2024, and that’s the goal for this year’s team.
“Coming into this season, we have a chip on our shoulder and we had one goal, and that’s to win the state championship,” Zachary said. “All of our guys bought in, Coach Winegar told us what to do. We’re doing it, and every day, we’re getting better just to get one step closer to that goal.”
