The Hamilton Southeastern basketball teams swept a Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls-boys doubleheader at Westfield on Friday, Jan. 16.
The girls game was first, and the Royals won 43-28. Southeastern jumped out to an 11-3 lead after one quarter, with Kennedy Holman scored five points.
The Shamrocks cut into that lead, getting within 20-13 by halftime. Ellie Wheeler scored five points of her own in the second period. Southeastern went up 32-23 in the third quarter; Piper Brinley had five points during that time. The Royals added 11 points in the fourth; Kayla Stidham scored six points, including all four of her free-throw attempts.
Holman led all scorers with 16 points, while Stidham had 13 points. Wheeler scored 12 points for Westfield.
Southeastern improved to 6-0 in conference play, clinching at least a share of the HCC title. The Royals are 16-3 overall and finish conference action Friday by hosting Zionsville. The Shamrocks are 5-1 in the conference and 16-6 overall and also complete their HCC schedule Friday at Brownsburg.
Southeastern won the boys game 57-54. The Royals got out to an early lead in that contest as well, going up 14-9 after one quarter. HSE then lead 32-19 at halftime. The Rocks outscored Southeastern 35-25 in the second half, but the Royals held on for the win.
Luke Weemer scored 24 points for Southeastern, while Varschon Clark contributed 13 points and five rebounds. Landon Osswald collected 11 rebounds and Jack Jacobs dished out 10 assists.
Luke Vandegriff totaled 13 points for Westfield, with Drew Haffner and Brock Detamore each adding 11 points and five rebounds.
The HSE boys are 2-1 in conference play and host Zionsville Friday in another HCC doubleheader. Westfield is 0-3 in the conference and 6-5 overall, and play an HCC contest Friday at Brownsburg.
