Just after 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Riker Horban became the first baby born in 2026 at IU Health Fishers. Riker, the son of Taylor Malone Horban and Brian Horban, weighed eight pounds, four ounces and measured 21 ½ inches.
“Overall, my team here was great. I loved it,” said Taylor, who was induced on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
As the couple rings in the new year and prepares to bring Riker home, they’re most excited to introduce him to their young twin girls.
“We’re excited to have his little sisters with him,” Taylor added. “They’re baby obsessed.”
With the opening of the new medical tower at IU Health Fishers this October, the team is now able to deliver babies at the hospital. The first baby born on New Year’s Day receives a special gift basket. It contains a variety of items for the baby and family.
The opening of the tower marks completion of IU Health’s Fishers Community Impact Project, which nearly doubles the size of the IU Health Fishers campus and workforce. Along with a new Labor and Delivery unit, the tower also houses Mammography, Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgical Services, an outpatient OB-GYN suite, Special Care Nursery, Medical-Surgical Inpatient unit and more.
