The University boys basketball team overwhelmed host Bethesda Christian 80-39 to win the championship game of the Bill Hawkins Classic on Tuesday.
The Trailblazers outscored the Patriots in each quarter, jumping out to a 21-10 lead after the first period. Josh Henderson led the way with seven points in the first.
University extended its lead to 41-22 at halftime. Jaxen Bennett threw in two 3-pointers, while Blake Gray and Henderson both added five more points.
The Blazers poured in 24 points in the third quarter to lead 65-37. Faisal Mohamud scored seven points, while Henderson added another six points. University’s defense took over in the fourth when it outscored Bethesda 15-2.
Four Trailblazers reached double-digit scoring, led by Henderson’s 18 points. Mohamud scored 16, with Gray and Bennett both contributing 11 points. Gray and Henderson were both named to the All-Tournament team.
University is 6-2 and will host Bethesda Christian on Friday in a regular-season game.
