Hamilton Southeastern’s boys basketball team finished fourth at the BSN Holiday Tournament, which took place last weekend at Homestead.
The Royals advanced to the semifinals with a Friday, Dec. 26 victory over Penn, 65-55. The Kingsmen led 15-11 after the first quarter before Southeastern came back to lead 26-24 at halftime. After an even third period, the Royals poured in 23 points during the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Three HSE players reached double-digit scoring, starting with Landon Osswald’s 17 points. Lucas Weemer added 15 points and KJ Buckley scored 11 points off the bench.
Jack Jacobs scored seven points and dished out seven assists. Osswald led the rebounds with seven, followed by Jacobs and Buckley with five each.
Southeastern played the tournament host Spartans in the Saturday, Dec. 27 semifinals and lost 57-51. The Royals led 25-24 at halftime, but Homestead outscored HSE 14-4 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Maverick Young scored 18 points, while Osswald contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. Jacobs handed out eight assists. Varschon Clark collected seven rebounds.
Southeastern dropped the third-place game to South Bend St. Joseph 66-64. The contest was tight all the way through, with 11 lead changes.
The Huskies led 24-23 after one quarter and jumped ahead 38-31 during the second period before the Royals finished on a 9-0 run to lead 40-38 at halftime. St. Joseph edged ahead 53-52 after three periods and held on in the fourth.
Osswald led HSE with 18 points, followed by Weemer’s double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jacobs came close to double-double status with 10 points and nine assists. Young scored eight points.
Southeastern is 3-5 and travels to Crown Point on Friday to take on the Class 4A No. 2-ranked Bulldogs.
