Hamilton Heights’ girls split a pair of games at the New Castle Holiday Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 27.
The Huskies opened the tournament with a 75-65 win over Oldenburg Academy. The game was tied at 16-16 after one quarter, but Heights put together back-to-back 20-point quarters to take a comfortable lead, going up 36-28 at halftime and 56-45 after three periods.
Four Heights players scored in double digits, led by Riley Suarez with 26 points. Addison Blum added 17 points, Bayleigh Eisele contributed 16 points and Zoey Curry scored 12.
Suarez came close to a double-double, pulling nine rebounds. Kamryn Rhoton made four steals and blocked three shots.
The victory extended the Huskies win streak to eight consecutive games. But the host Trojans ended that streak in the championship game, beating Heights 69-61.
New Castle led 20-15 after one quarter. The Huskies were still in it at halftime, trailing 30-26, but the Trojans poured in 21 points during the third quarter to take a 51-42 lead.
Suarez scored 20 points to lead Heights, with Eisele adding 15 points and Curry scoring 12. Suarez also collected five rebounds and made four steals. Eisele dished out four assists.
The Huskies are 10-3 for the season. Their next game is Jan. 6 at North Miami.
