After four close quarters of regulation, Westfield’s girls blasted through an overtime period to beat Avon 65-54 Tuesday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference road game.
The teams were tied at 53-53 at the end of regulation, but the Shamrocks outscored the Orioles 12-1 in the extra period. Ellie Wheeler scored five points, Lillian Clark scored four and Gabby Bassett hit a 3-pointer.
The freshman Clark led the way, scoring in each quarter on her way to 25 points. Clark nailed five 3s, including two in the second quarter. Bassett totaled 17 points, also scoring in each period. Wheeler finished with nine points.
Westfield is unbeaten in HCC play at 4-0 and improved to 10-3 overall. The Shamrocks are back home Saturday afternoon to play Noblesville in another conference contest.
