Prevail, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to provide critical housing assistance for survivors of crime and abuse in Hamilton County. The funding will help survivors secure and maintain safe housing.
“Housing is one of the primary needs for survivors to achieve safety,” Prevail, Inc. Executive Director Tami Wanninger said. “Partners like the Duke Energy Foundation make this possible by helping with deposits, rent, and even unexpected expenses such as vehicle repairs and security alarms, which can otherwise be major barriers to safety.”
“We’re pleased to support Prevail and the needs of our community with this grant,” said Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager Mark LaBarr.
National data shows that survivors are four times more likely to experience housing instability than the general population. In response, Prevail launched its Flexible Funding Program in 2019, a survivor-centered initiative that provides direct financial support to help individuals secure or maintain safe housing during or after leaving an abusive relationship. The program addresses the well-established link between interpersonal violence and homelessness and has become a vital part of Prevail’s comprehensive service model.
