Westfield made a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Guerin Catholic 56-51 Friday, Dec. 12 at the Eagles Nest.
The Golden Eagles led 18-15 after the first quarter, with Jake Grissom pouring in 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Shamrocks’ Drew Haffner scored seven points to help keep Westfield close.
Hayden Rogers scored eight points for Guerin Catholic in the second quarter, which finished with GC ahead 31-26. Haffner threw in two triples for the Rocks.
Westfield made a dent in the Golden Eagles’ lead by the end of the third quarter, as Guerin Catholic led 39-36. The Shamrocks then took over in the fourth, putting up 20 points. Haffner and Luke Vandegriff both scored seven points in that quarter.
Haffner finished with 22 points, including three 3s, and six rebounds, while Vandegriff totaled 15 points and eight rebounds. Haffner also dished out four assists.
Grissom led the Golden Eagles with 24 points, also making three 3s. Rogers scored 15 points and handed out five assists. Carter Murans led the rebounds with seven, followed by Andrew Reithman with six.
Westfield is 2-2 and plays a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at Noblesville on Friday. Guerin Catholic is also 2-2 and travels to Pendleton Heights tonight.
