Hamilton Heights freshman Riley Suarez was named the Indiana Basketball Coaches’ Association’s girls Player of the Week from District 2 for the week of Dec. 1 to 6.
Suarez posted norms of 26.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in keying the Huskies) to a 2-0 week. The 6-1 wing poured in 35 points with four rebounds and one block in a 68-52 victory at Peru. She followed by scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block as the Huskies notched a 50-47 home triumph over Connersville. For the week, Suarez was 23-of-39 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and 6-of-8 from the line.
Suarez is the second Hamilton County player to receive IBCA honors this season. Hamilton Southeastern Kennedy Holman was the girls District 2 player of the week during Nov. 17 to 22.
Holman tallied norms of 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 6.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Royals. The 5-9 guard scored 31 points with seven rebounds, three assists, five steals and two blocks in a 43-22 victory over. The University of Florida recruit also netted 15 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, eight steals and one block as the Royals topped Franklin Central 55-44. For the week, Holman was 13-of-31 on field goals and 20-of-24 on free throws.
