Westfield won a hard-fought all-county girls basketball game on Tuesday, holding off Carmel 35-32 at the Shamrocks’ CSI Gymnasium.
The game was low scoring all the way, with Westfield leading 6-5 after one quarter. The Shamrocks went up 15-13 by halftime, thanks to three 3-pointers in the second period. Lillian Clark, Gabby Bassett and MaKayla Hatcher all hit triples. Natalie Whelan-Edwards kept the Greyhounds close with six points in that quarter.
Westfield surged ahead 27-20 by the end of the third period, with Hatcher adding another seven points. Carmel came back in the fourth and cut the lead to 33-32, but two free throws from Audra Parker sealed the game for the Rocks.
Hatcher led Westfield with 12 points, while Whelan-Edwards scored 13 for the Hounds.
The Rocks are 8-3 and play a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Friday at Zionsville. Carmel is 6-3 and hosts Fort Wayne Snider Saturday afternoon.
