Sunday night, Dec. 7, the Town of Atlanta lit the tree and officially began being festive for the Christmas season. Over 100 people came out to let the kids see Santa, stroll past the live manger scene, and enjoy a small-town homecooked meal provided by local churches.
There were toy bags for local kids, thanks to an annual toy drive by Mid-Indiana Marine, which also helps provide Christmas for local youngsters who would otherwise not have as merry a holiday as they deserve.
Inside the community center, where that homecooked meal was served, there were also holiday-themed kids’ craft activities. It was so festive, even the Grinch was in good spirits, and we all know how hard THAT guy is to please …
Not only does Atlanta not pay for a professional Santa, but the Santa they chose donates more than just his time. Atlanta’s Santa gave over $600 to support the town’s festivities. This newspaper suspects Atlanta may have invited the OG Santa directly from the North Pole because that kind of generosity of spirit is almost mythological these days.
But we heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight.”
