Former Carmel City Councilor and Plan Commission member Sue Potasnik passed away Friday, Nov. 21.
Potasnik, who was then Sue McMullen, served two terms on the Carmel City Council from 1980 to 1988, was Council president in 1983, and served on the Plan Commission from 1980 to 1991. She was one of Carmel’s first women to be elected to a political office and served her terms during the administrations of the city’s first female Mayors Jane Reiman (1980-1988) and Dorothy “Dottie” Hancock (1988-1992).
“The passing of Sue Potasnik is a profound loss for our community,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “Sue was a true pioneer for the City of Carmel. Her vision, dedication and service helped shape the foundational values and character of the community we see today. On behalf of the City of Carmel, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and all who were touched by her life and work.”
