This November, Duke Energy proudly celebrates the 75th anniversary of Noblesville Generating Station, a facility that has stood as a symbol of innovation and reliability since its commissioning in 1950.
Originally built by Public Service Indiana, a predecessor company of Duke Energy, Noblesville began its journey with two Westinghouse steam turbines and three Riley Stoker coal-fired boilers, delivering 90 megawatts of electricity. For decades, it powered communities across Indiana, setting the foundation for modern energy generation.
In 2003, the station was repowered into a natural gas combined-cycle facility, featuring three combustion turbines and three heat recovery steam generators. This upgrade boosted capacity to 310 megawatts, tripled its generating capability and significantly reduced environmental emissions.
Today, Noblesville’s original boiler house and two historic steam turbines are still on site. This unique blend of legacy and modern technology makes Noblesville one of the most distinctive plants in the Duke Energy fleet.
The station’s performance continues to impress. Last year, Noblesville set an all-time generation record of 1,847,828 megawatt-hours and is on pace to finish among the top three performers in 2025. These achievements reflect the dedication and pride of the Noblesville team, whose efforts ensure reliable service for customers year after year.
