Noblesville edges out Avon in opener

Noblesville won a close season-opening game at Avon Saturday, Nov. 8, edging out Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Avon 53-51 at the Orioles’ gym.
Ally Hutchinson made two free throws with 0.3 seconds to clinch the game for the Millers. It was a back-and-forth contest the entire way.
Noblesville led 14-11 after the first quarter, then Avon came back to take a 25-19 lead at halftime. C.C. Quigley 10 points for the Millers in the first half, including two 3-pointers.
A 20-point third quarter helped Noblesville get within 40-39 going into the fourth period. Five different players scored for the Millers during the fourth; Hutchinson had five points, a 3 and those two big free throws.
Quigley led the way with 22 points, scoring in every quarter and making four 3s, and reached double-double status with 10 rebounds. Maia Blower scored eight, draining two triples.
Noblesville hosts Bishop Chatard tonight at The Mill for its home opener.
