The Carmel girls basketball team traveled to Lawrence Central on Thursday and fell in their season-opener 67-49 against the No. 2-ranked Bears.
Lawrence Central jumped out to a 23-10 lead after the first quarter and held a 41-21 advantage at halftime. Carmel’s Layla Abdo hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter, while Taylee Fisher added five second-quarter points.
The Hounds played even with LC in the second half, outscoring them 12-8 in the third quarter. Natalie Whelan-Edwards scored five points in the third quarter, while Fisher had a solid fourth quarter, scoring nine points.
Fisher led Carmel with 17 points, while Whelan-Edwards added nine points.
The Greyhounds travel to Evansville Central on Saturday.
