The Sheridan girls basketball team began its season Tuesday by dropping its opener to Southmont, 38-25 at Larry Hobbs Gymnasium.
The Mounties led 14-7 after the first quarter and 25-10 at halftime. While the Blackhawks have some experience returning from last season’s historic 25-2 and regional champion team, they also graduated 40 points per game from five strong seniors.
“We struggled scoring the ball tonight, so it’s just going to be about who can start making some shots,” said coach Jaidlin Bradshaw. “Really, that’s it. They take a lot of shots in practice.”
Bradshaw said the coaching staff will be working on getting the players “more game speed and game-like shots to imitate what they’re going to see in a game. They more we can do that, the better.”
Junior Sadie Timme scored nine points to lead Sheridan, while junior Brielle Garner added eight points, including two 3-pointers. Both were key players on last year’s team.
Sheridan plays again Thursday at Bethesda Christian.
