The Carmel girls cross country team added another state championship to its already-overflowing trophy case last weekend.
The Greyhounds triumphed at the IHSAA state meet, which took place Saturday, Nov. 1 at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. Carmel scored 100 points, finishing comfortably ahead of Concordia Lutheran’s 129 points.
The Hounds defended their title over the Cadets for the second consecutive year. Carmel claimed its 21st state title, far and away the most for any girls cross country program in the state.
The Greyhounds placed two runners in the top 10. Sadie Foley finished third, clocking in at 17 minutes, 22.6 seconds, while Larkin Taylor was 10th in a time of 17:46.0. Carmel placed all five of its runners in the team-scoring top 50, which enabled the Hounds to win by a solid margin.
Foley and Taylor both earned All-State honors, as did Annabel Pollert. She finished 22nd in a time of 18:10.2.
Westfield placed eighth as a team with 264 points. Alivia Lozier with a 19th-place finish (18:02.6), giving her a place on the All-State team.
Fishers scored 273 points to place ninth. Caitlin Hawkins placed 16th, clocking in at 17:58.5 to receive All-State honors.

Noblesville finished second in the boys team competition, scoring 129 points to earn the runner-up spot for the second year in a row.
Columbus North won the team title in dominant fashion, totaling 58 points.
The Millers had two runners finish in the top 10: John Libs placed third in 15:07.5, while Banner Barnes took ninth in 15:16.4. Both runners received All-State honors.
Carmel finished sixth as a team, scoring 183 points. Jonah Kaul earned a place on the All-State team by finishing 18th (15:37.1).
Hamilton Southeastern totaled 253 points to place eighth. Liam Powers ran a strong race, taking fourth in 15:12.4 and earning All-State honors.
