These Hamilton Heights second-grade students got some peripatetic education this month. Aristotle would be proud. (Photos provided by Jackson Township)

Second-grade students from Hamilton Heights Elementary School recently took part in a walking tour of their community, stopping by the Jackson Township Fire Department to learn more about fire safety and emergency services.
During their visit, students had the opportunity to explore fire trucks and ambulances, ask questions, and gain insight into what it means to serve as a firefighter. The firefighters provided hands-on learning experiences and answered students’ curious questions about the important work they do to keep the community safe.

A highlight of the day was meeting Lena, the department’s beloved “fire dog.” Students enjoyed spending time with her and learning how she trains and supports the firefighters in their daily duties. Lena quickly became a crowd favorite, offering plenty of tail wags and smiles.
