Two Hamilton County volleyball sectional champions will play for a regional title Saturday at Norwell.
Hamilton Heights takes on the host Knights for a Class 3A title at 4 p.m., then No. 2-ranked Westfield plays Bellmont for a Class 4A trophy at 7 p.m.
The Knights are 28-5 and won the New Haven sectional with sweeps of Mississinewa and Heritage. Norwell’s offense is led by seniors Macie Saalfrank with 316 kills and Hope Mitchell with 223 kills. Senior Emma Vachon has dished out 721 assists and also served 81 aces; Saalfrank has 61 aces.
Senior Autumn Lee is the defensive leader with 309 digs, followed by 281 for Saalfrank and 248 for Vachon. Junior Isabella Swineford has 71 blocks.
The Huskies are 22-8 and triumphed at the New Castle sectional, coming back to beat the Trojans in the semis before sweeping Jay County in the final.
Senior Macie Smith has been dominant on offense with 525 kills and 56 aces, while sophomore Olivia Schiffli has 260 kills. Senior Sierra Bramel leads in assists with 514, followed by junior Reece Blanton with 360.
Junior Addie Doak is on top of the digs list with 358, while Smith has collected 306 digs. Freshman Riley Suarez has made 53 blocks and sophomore Celeste Wiegman has 51.
The Bellmont Braves are 20-12 and won their own sectional with sweeps of Homestead in the first round, Huntington North in the semis and Fort Wayne Wayne in the championship match.
Senior Marykate Scheumann is by far Bellmont’s leader in kills with 498. Senior Lilly Selking has 493 assists, while junior Gracie Riggs is not far behind with 458 assists. Junior Taylor Sutter leads in aces with 37.
Scheumann is also the defensive leader with 424 digs. Sophomore Kaylee Kolter has collected 70 blocks.
The Shamrocks are having one of their best seasons in history with a 25-1 record. Westfield won the sectional by getting past No. 3 Hamilton Southeastern in a five-set semifinal, then swept a tough Carmel team in the championship.
Senior Georgia Bresnahan leads the Rocks in kills with 297, while junior Kendyl Strack has served 56 aces. A pair of juniors are handling the assists: Emily Blevins has dished out 522 and Kenna Robinson has handed out 471.
Strack has made 322 digs on defense. Junior Carsyn Comer leads the blocks with 64, followed by junior Paige Rudolph with 50.
