The Westfield girls cross country is finally back on top at the Noblesville sectional.
The Shamrocks won their first sectional title in 18 years on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Chanquapin Ridge Cross Country Course at White River Elementary School. Westfield edged out Fishers and the host Millers; scoring 62 points to the Tigers’ 68 and Noblesville’s 70.
The Rocks won their third sectional in program history. Westfield won back-to-back championships in 2006 and 2007. The Shamrocks went on to win a state title in both years, part of a three-year run of state championships which began in 2005.
Westfield had the top Hamilton County finisher: junior Alivia Lozier placed second in a time of 18 minutes, 0.3 seconds. Senior Jordyn Landrum also landed in the top 10, finishing ninth. Three other runners reached the top 20, helping the Rocks to win the title.
Fishers was led by sophomore Caitlin Hawkins, who took third place in 18:16.8. The Tigers had four runners place in the top 20.
Millers junior Jayde Stamm finished in fifth place, clocking in at 18:46.1. Noblesville placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 25.
The top five teams advance to this Saturday’s regional at Shelbyville’s Blue River Park. Hamilton Southeastern took fourth with 99 points, while Guerin Catholic was fifth with 110 points.
Both schools placed one runner in the top 10. Golden Eagles freshman Chloe Tragesser finished sixth in 19:03.4, while Royals junior Zoe Gebhart took seventh in 19:16.4.
Hamilton Heights finished sixth as a team with 136 points, but the Huskies advanced all seven of their runners to the regional as individuals. Junior Allie Bushey led Heights by placing fourth in 18:42.5.

In the boys meet, host Noblesville scored a comfortable victory. The Millers claimed the sectional title by scoring 41 points. Southeastern was second with 73 and Fishers placed third with 77.
Noblesville had three top-10 finishers: junior Banner Barnes was third in 15:43.1, senior John Libs took fourth in 15:43.2 and sophomore Isaiah Vohs finished ninth in 16:05.2. The Millers placed their first five runners in the top 15 on their way to winning their third sectional title.
Noblesville also won sectional championships in 1986 and 2020.
The Royals had the individual race winner: senior Liam Powers paced the field by finishing in 15:14.3. Junior Isaac Smith took seventh, clocking in at 15:53.3.
The Tigers were led by senior Nate Thomas, who took sixth in 15:49.4. Fishers placed four runners in the top 20.
Westfield finished fourth as a team, totaling 105 points; junior Nathan McKeever led the Shamrocks by taking 11th. Pendleton Heights got the fifth team spot, scoring 151 points to advance to the regional.
Guerin Catholic was sixth as a team and Hamilton Heights placed seventh, but both schools will have five individual regional qualifiers. Junior Cole Eckstein led the Golden Eagles by placing 17th, while senior Isaiah Heuer led the Huskies by placing 30th.
