For Parker Paramoure, tennis has always been more than a game. It’s a bond with his father, a source of passion, and now, the heart of a historic win for Westfield.
Westfield High School’s No. 1 singles player, Parker Paramoure, has helped lead the boys tennis team to a landmark achievement this season: its first-ever sectional victory. The excitement surrounding the win, especially from Paramoure, is unparalleled to any other team, setting the stage for a new chapter for the school’s program.
“Winning sectionals was probably one of the greatest moments for me, just because the past two years it was heartbreaking to see us lose,” said Paramoure. “It felt really rewarding for me when we finally broke that barrier.”
The road to winning sectionals as a senior has been a long journey for Paramoure. As a child, he wasn’t always committed to tennis, playing inconsistently throughout his youth. It wasn’t until late middle school that Paramoure fully dedicated himself to the sport.
“I really picked it up going into eighth grade, my dad helped me out a lot, he’s my coach. He played tennis in college, and he knew a lot, so I really jumped up going into my eighth-grade year,” said Paramoure.
Much of Parker’s success can be credited to his biggest inspiration and longtime coach — his father Scott. Parker Paramoure says his dad’s guidance and support have played a major role in shaping him into the tough and competitive player he is today.
“I started because of him and I continue to play because I want to make him proud. Obviously, I have a passion for the sport, but he’s the one who really got me into it at the end of the day,” said Paramoure.
Parker Paramoure’s drive for success has fueled an undying passion for the game, one that not only has impacted his high school career, but inspired his teammates with strong leadership that will leave a long-lasting example on the Westfield tennis program.
“I want everyone to look at me and say ‘He was passionate’,” said Paramoure. “A lot of high school players don’t have that fire and I think the more passionate you are the more determined and motivated you are. That’s how I want people to look at me.”
“Parker has played well this season. We scheduled him a really tough schedule and played a ton of ranked teams,” said Westfield’s head coach, Tony Peters.
Paramoure is glad he closed out his senior year on a strong and memorable note and is grateful to take with him life lessons for the future.
“All good things come to an end. I’m happy and grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had to play high school tennis for four years and to play great players every year,” said Paramoure. “I’m excited for what’s ahead, not only for tennis, but to use the characteristics that I’ve gained from this season for the rest of my life.”
