Westfield was edged out by Delta 3-2 Tuesday in the semifinals of the Noblesville regional.
The No. 11 Shamrocks won the first two matches, with No. 3 singles Ajay Prasanna getting a 6-4, 6-1 victory and No. 2 singles Luke Stoecker winning his match 6-4, 6-0. The No. 13 Eagles got their first point by when No. 1 doubles Tyce Dishman and Aaron Elliott beat Westfield’s Leyton Steill and Payton Paramoure 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The No. 2 doubles match between the Rocks’ Charlie Juleen and Ben Soukup and Delta’s Brandon Grubbs and Brady Williams was a back-and-forth bout, with both teams breaking each other’s serve multiple times in the third set. The Eagles eventually won 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (4) to tie the match. That left No. 1 singles, where Delta’s Jackson Darby outlasted Westfield’s Parker Paramoure 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the meet.
“We knew going into it, it was going to be a tough match and it certainly was,” said Westfield coach Tony Peters. “Up and down, all three singles, both doubles, it was fantastic tennis. I think everybody played some of their best tennis of the year, and so that was exciting.”
The Shamrocks were coming off their first-ever sectional championship in school history, which took place last week at Noblesville.
“Very proud of our team,” said Peters. “We accomplished somethings we never have and I do think that this is one of our better matches.”
