The Guerin Catholic volleyball team made a quick sweep of North Central Thursday at the Eagles Nest.
The Class 3A No. 9 Golden Eagles won 25-15, 25-18, 25-18. Maddie Fritch led Guerin Catholic’s offense with 15 kills, while Emery Cardinal put down 10 kills. Natalie Laughon served five aces, while Claire Ducey dished out 40 assists.
Laughon led GC’s defense with 17 digs, with Fritch collecting 11 digs. Cardinal made two blocks.
“They’re playing really well,” said Golden Eagles coach Jennifer Shortenhaus. The coach said her team was unified, having fun and “they’re trying hard. I’m really excited about the post-season.”
Guerin Catholic is 16-5 and plays Tuesday at Lebanon.

Hamilton Heights took care of Pendleton Heights with a sweep on Thursday, 25-21, 26-24, 25-12.
Aubrey Cloncs made several big hits for the Huskies, while Julia Bearman collected several digs.
Heights improved to 16-5 and will compete at the Plainfield Invitational on Saturday, taking on the host Quakers at noon and 4A No. 7 Harrison at 3 p.m.

Sheridan was swept by Lapel on Thursday, 25-19, 25-18, 26-24.
Lainey Mendenhall hit 15 kills for the Blackhawks, followed by Beth Adams with six, Emily Will with four, Adria Jump with three and Lilli Thompson with two. Jump served three aces, while Mendenhall, Eva Todd and Thompson all served one each. Jump dished out 23 assists.
Sheridan coach Melissa Jump said defensively this was the best the Blackhawks have played. Adams scooped up 16 digs, while Jump made 15, Mendenhall collected 13 and Meredith Krupp had 12. Todd made six digs and Kelsie Hagan added five.
The Hawks are 13-6 and play Tuesday at 1A No. 8 Rossville in a Hoosier Heartland Conference match. The Hornets lead the HHC standings at 6-0, while Sheridan is 5-1 in the conference.
