Fishers Century Club donates to another great organization
The Fishers Century Club gathered last week for its Q3 meeting, continuing its mission of supporting charities through collective crowd-giving. Attendees heard from June’s meeting winner, Kiwanis’ Holiday Hopes, on how the funds were used.
Then two charities were presented by attendees: Mike Daggett spoke about the work of Folds of Honor, and Steve Gilbert shared his personal story of how Rock Steady Boxing has transformed his life with Parkinson’s Disease.
Gilbert’s inspiring pitch connected with attendees as he explained how the program’s boxing-based, non-contact fitness curriculum has improved his mobility, balance, and overall quality of life. Rock Steady Boxing, founded in Indianapolis in 2006, now has more than 800 affiliates worldwide, offering specialized exercise programs proven to help people with Parkinson’s disease fight back against its symptoms. Several beneficiaries of the concept are on scholarship.
“We continue to hear from our attendees about great charities doing good work. Many of the groups we have heard presented over the last four-plus years, we did not even know existed,” Fishers Century Club Founder Adam Kallick said. “It’s great to highlight organizations like Rock Steady Boxing that make such a direct and personal impact for those with Parkinson’s in our community. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank our meeting hosts, The Club Coworking and Knowledge Services, for the use of their event space and food donations.”
Final tally of the crowd-giving funds is still coming in from members unable to attend the Sept. 16 meeting. Those who wish to support may still contribute through the Club’s online giving platform, Grapevine, at tinyurl.com/OnlineGivingFCC. Fishers Century Club is unique, with all funds going direct to the winning charity, as the crowd-giving club does not have a bank account and everything raised is passed directly onto the meeting’s selected charity.
The next Fishers Century Club meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. All men interested in giving back to the local community and networking with others are encouraged to attend and become a part of this growing group. The crowd-giving organization meets quarterly, hears from up to three charities pitched by attendees, and ultimately vote to select a winning charity.
