The Carmel girls cross country team kept the pace and then some at an exceptionally fast Eagle Classic, which took place Saturday, Sept. 13 at Eagle Park in Brown County.
The Greyhounds won the team event with 49 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Bloomington South’s 83 points. Carmel placed three runners in the top five to quickly take control of the team standings.
Annabel Pollert was the race runner-up in a time of 17 minutes, 28.6 seconds, just ahead of her third-place teammate Sadie Foley (17:28.9). Larkin Taylor finished fifth in 17:37.1. The race winner was Pendleton Heights’ Anya Zoeller, who stunned the field with a winning time of 16:53.5. That is a new course record and the first time a girls runner has run a sub-17 minute race at Eagle Park.

Carmel also won the boys race, scoring 83 points. Jonah Kaul led the Greyhounds by taking third place in 15:28.0, while Deklin Bowser also reached the top 10, placing ninth in 15:38.8.

Guerin Catholic hosted the All-Catholic Invitational Saturday, Sept. 13, with the Golden Eagles boys team winning its division.
The GC boys scored 36 points, placing solidly ahead of Bishop Chatard’s 54 points. Guerin sewed up the title quickly by landing five runners in the top 11. Cole Eckstein led the way, finishing as individual runner-up in a time of 16:23.9.

The Guerin Catholic girls finished a close second to Chatard; the Trojans edged out the Golden Eagles 45-47. Chloe Tragesser was the individual runner-up, clocking in at 18:50.5.

Four Hamilton County teams competed in the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcat Classic Saturday, Sept. 13.
In the girls race, Hamilton Southeastern placed third with 120 points, Hamilton Heights took sixth by scoring 183 points, and Westfield finished 10th with 236 points. The Huskies’ Allie Bushey was the top county finisher, placing ninth. Anissa Lammie (15th) and Zoe Gebhart (18th) both reached the top 20 for the Royals.
In the boys race, Southeastern also placed third, scoring 102 points. Noblesville finished sixth by scoring 148 points, and Heights took 12th place with a total of 364 points.
The Royals’ Isaac Smith was the top county finisher, placing fourth in a time of 15:33.1.

In the boys race, the Shamrocks placed third with 127 points, while the Trailblazers were 13th with 361 points. Luke Stevens led Westfield, placing 15th in 17:13.11, with University’s Finlay Reid right behind him in 16th place (17:13.51).
