A Mudsock soccer game is never easy, even if your team winds up scoring six goals.
Hamilton Southeastern did score six goals in its 6-1 win over Fishers Wednesday to win the annual traveling trophy at the Tigers’ field. But the Class 3A No. 1 Royals had to do it all in the second half: the score was tied 0-0 at halftime.
Southeastern broke through 57 seconds into the second half. Lauren Kutoloski sent a corner kick into the box, and Blair Satterfield booted it into the net for that first goal.
“We were playing some really good balls and we had some really good opportunities in the first half and we didn’t capitalize,” said Royals coach Greg Davidson. “Finally, we made the right runs and we made the right shot to capitalize on one of our opportunities.”
Southeastern eventually went up 3-0; Sydney May scored HSE’s second goal, then Riley Boyd put in the Royals’ third goal. Fishers got on the board with 22 minutes left in the game after Elise May put in a goal.
But Southeastern bounced right back and put in three more goals during the last 15 minutes of the game. Kherrington Patton scored the Royals’ fourth and fifth goals, then Blair Satterfield completed with three minutes left, putting in her second goal of the game.
“She can get up into the attack,” Davidson said of Satterfield. “That’s why IU is loving her because not only is she one of the states’ best 1v1 defenders and she’s an incredible athlete, but she gets up into the attack and she can score.
“Kherrington has gotten quite a few goals for us,” said Satterfield. “She plays a reserve role of going in when our other forwards are just beating those defenders down, and then Kherrington goes in there, and she is very crafty around the goal and she’s a good goal scorer herself.”
Fishers’ goalkeeper Sarah Maudlin made a pair of tough saves during the second half and finished with six saves overall. Hannah Dodge made two saves for the Royals.
The Mudsock game is also a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest, and the Royals improved to 5-0 in the league. Southeastern is 10-0 overall and plays at Fort Wayne Carroll Saturday morning.
The Tigers are 0-4 in the conference and 2-6-1 overall. Fishers plays at Homestead Saturday afternoon.
