Westfield city officials are now accepting entries the second annual Veterans Day Ceremony Poster & Essay Contest, presented by Community Health.
The contest, which was created to honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans, is open to all students residing in Westfield or Washington Township, whether they attend a public, private, or home-based learning program.

“I’m proud to see our young people honor the brave men and women who served this nation in such a creative, heartfelt way,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “As a veteran, this day is deeply meaningful to me, and I’m grateful to live in a community that values and honors its veterans.”
Poster contest
Eligibility:
- Open to students in K-6
- Must live in the City of Westfield or Washington Township
Requirements:
- Poster size: 11-by-17 inches
- Theme title to include: History and Significance of Veterans Day
- Include a strong visual element (e.g., soldier, flag)
- Content must be appropriate (no vulgar language or imagery)
Submission instructions:
- Drop off at Westfield City Services: 2728 E. 171st St. or online at this link before Oct. 31. (If selected as a winner, physical posters will need to be dropped off at City Services to be on display/presented during the ceremony.)
- Write the child’s first and last name, age, and grade on the back of the poster
- Include the parent or guardian’s first and last name, phone number, and email address with the poster (for artwork return)
One winner from each grade (K-6) will receive a monetary prize
Posters will be displayed and presented during the Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11
Essay contest
Eligibility:
- Open to students in grades 7-12
- Must live in the City of Westfield or Washington Township
Requirements:
- Must address the theme: History and Significance of Veterans Day
- Can be a short essay, poem, or other written format
- Content must be appropriate (no vulgar language or imagery)
Submission instructions:
- Drop off at Westfield City Services, 2728 E. 171st St., or online at this link before Oct. 31
- Include the student’s full name, age, grade, and school
- Include the parent or legal guardian’s first and last name, phone number, and email address with the submission (for essay return)
One winner from each grade (7-12) will receive a monetary prize, courtesy of Community Health. Essay contest winners will have the opportunity to read their work aloud during the ceremony.
In addition to the contests, during the ceremony the city will feature the names and photos of residents who served in the armed services. The Westfield Veterans Day Ceremony, presented by Citizens Energy Group, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at IMMI Conference Center, 18880 E. St. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., leading into a meaningful ceremony featuring live performances, keynote speeches, a special gift for veterans, and more.
