Noblesville did not run slow during its season-opening game Friday at Mt. Vernon, but the Millers’ steady rushing game resulted in victory.
Noblesville beat the Marauders 21-6 to secure the first win for new head coach John Hebert. The Millers scored out of the gate, as Noah Shinkle ran in for a four-yard touchdown just 40 seconds into the contest.
The score stayed at 7-0 for the remainder of the first half, but Shinkle added more points for Noblesville in the third quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Woody Corey II also punched in a one-yard TD run midway through the fourth period. The Marauders got on the board by making a touchdown pass with five seconds left in the game.
Shinkle finished the game with 67 yards rushing, while Ethan Clark gained 49 yards. Windsor Hutchins totaled 77 yards passing for his Millers quarterback debut. Aidan Kincaide led the defense with seven tackles, with Ryan Overly making 2.5 tackles for a loss.
Noblesville plays its home opener next Friday, welcoming Homestead to Beaver Stadium.
