Hamilton Heights got off to a nice start at Class 3A Sectional 24 on Tuesday, cruising past host New Castle 59-42 at the Trojans’ famed Fieldhouse.
The Huskies dominated the first quarter, building a 15-2 lead. Heights held on to that margin for the remainder of the game; the Huskies led 24-12 at halftime and 43-27 after three periods.
Jackson Mikesell scored 22 points on an efficient offensive night, making 9 of 10 field goals. Rees Knapp scored 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Jack Kakasuleff added 11 points.
Will DeStefano collected eight rebounds, followed by six for Mikesell and five for Austin Day. Kakasuleff dished out four assists and Knapp had two blocked shots.
The Huskies are 14-9 and return to New Castle on Friday for the sectional semifinals. Heights plays Delta in the second game at approximately 7:30 p.m., following the 6 p.m. opener between Connersville and Yorktown.
