Rocks triumph at Harrison, Millers advance from Franklin Central

The Westfield gymnastics team claimed the program’s first-ever sectional championship on Saturday, Feb. 28.
The Shamrocks triumphed at the Harrison sectional, which took place at Elite Gymnastics Facility in Lafayette. Westfield won with a team score of 105.225 points, followed by runner-up Northwestern with 102.525 and the third-place host Raiders with 101.975.
The top three teams advance to the Portage regional, which takes place this Saturday, March 7.
Sophomore Sonoma Fischer led the way for the Rocks, winning the all-around with a score of 36.45. (She was Westfield’s only all-around competitor.) Fischer won three events, including a tie for first in the floor exercise. Fischer and Logansport senior Rylee Zimmerman both scored 9.45 to share the top of the podium.
Fischer outright won the vault with a mark of 9.20 and took the uneven bars event with 9.05. She tied for fifth on the balance beam, scoring 8.75.
Sophomore Hallie Walther made it 1-2 in the vault for the Rocks by scoring 9.075. Senior Madie Doran finished third on the floor with a mark of 9.225. Freshman Kaleia Cole also earned a top-five place, taking fourth in the uneven bars with 8.35.

Noblesville placed second at the competitive Franklin Central sectional, which took place Friday, Feb. 27 at The Gymnastics Company near the high school.
The Millers totaled 104.000 to punch their ticket to the regional, which is scheduled for this Friday, March 6, also at The Gymnastics Company. Columbus North won the sectional by scoring 104.75, while Roncalli scored 103.575 to place third and round out the team qualifiers.
Noblesville had all four of its gymnasts place in the top 15 in the all-around competition. Hailey Nobbe scored 35.575 for fourth place, while Valorey Bittles was sixth with 34.825. Emmerson Leckrone finished eighth with 33.45 and Vera Deichman tied for 14th, scoring 31.95.
Nobbe was an individual champion, winning the vault with a score of 9.20. Bittles tied for second in the vault with 9.05 and also earned a 9.20 on the balance beam, placing her third in that event.
Nobbe finished fourth in the uneven bars with 8.65, while Leckrone took fifth in the floor exercise with 9.00.
