INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — HSE girls basketball has been one of the top programs in the state recently, and that is no different this season.
The Royals are 15-3 and ranked sixth in 4A, and a big contributor to their success is senior forward Kayla Stidham.
She’s averaging nearly 16 points per game, which is second on the team. She is also the leading rebounder, averaging over seven boards per game.
Working on expanding her game has been one of Stidham’s focuses.
“I think when I was younger, I was just a shooter and I was just a threat from three, so I think just improving my game, being able to post, especially getting my free throw percentage up was a big thing from last year,” Stidham said. “So I think that was a big thing, just improving my game everywhere.”
“You’ve just seen the maturity of her as she’s gone throughout the years,” HSE girls basketball head coach Brian Satterfield said. “When she started out, basically just trying to be more of an offensive threat and a shooter. But as she’s come into this year, you can just see what she does at both ends of the floor.”
HSE was so close to making it to the state game last season, losing in the semi-state championship game. Getting to state is one of the goals for this team.
“Everyone here works their butt off,” Stidham said. “I think it’d be really cool. It would be amazing. I would love to be able to play at Gainbridge.”
Stidham will continue her career next season at Bowling Green.
