Friday, Jan. 16 was a fun-filled, food-infused experience brought to northern Hamilton County by Tom and Maggie Baniak, owners of the newly launched Gosia’s Rustic Kitchen at 308 S. Main St., Sheridan.
Lines formed outside and the venue was standing-room-only excitement as guests sampled the vibrancy of the Polish culture through its food, its language, and its cultural traditions.
During the Indianapolis visit of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago during the week of Jan. 12, Consulate representatives hosted a ceremonial opening with a ribbon cutting by Consul General Regina Jurkowska, accompanied by Vice Consul Oskar Gradziel (for Polonia affairs).
The Baniaks have been on a long journey to celebrate and share their love for the Polish culture. They enjoy a strong marketplace following through farmers markets. But their dream is a successful restaurant offering an authentic Polish cuisine spot in a small town giving back and adding to community connections.
The opening of Gosia’s affirms the Baniaks’ agreement with the Polish Cultural Society of Indiana that, “Moments like these show how powerful it is to build bridges through culture and shared experiences.”
Gosia’s is officially open for lunch Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through January. Hours will expand in February, including Saturdays. Gosia’s menu includes traditional dishes like pierogis, kielbasa, and broccoli cheddar soup plus weekly offerings of American-influenced meals and soups rounding out the options for the community.
