On Wednesday, Jan. 7, John Lowes, Chief Deputy of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, filed for election as Hamilton County Sheriff in the upcoming Republican primary.
A career law enforcement officer with more than 28 years of experience, Lowes is running to continue strong conservative leadership and ensure Hamilton County remains one of the safest communities in Indiana.
Lowes currently serves as Chief Deputy, where he oversees the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office and works closely with deputies and command staff to support public safety across the county. Over the course of his career, he has served in a wide range of roles, including patrol, investigations, field training, and administration, giving him a deep understanding of the department and the community it serves.

“I am running for Sheriff because I believe Hamilton County deserves experienced conservative leadership that will protect our families, uphold the Constitution, and enforce the law fairly and firmly,” Lowes said. “Public safety requires vigilance, accountability, and a commitment to conservative principles that put the rule of law first.”
Lowes will appear on the Hamilton County Republican primary ballot in May.
Lowes has been endorsed by Sheriff Dennis Quakenbush, who is term-limited and will conclude his second term in 2026. Quakenbush pointed to Lowes’ experience, character, and leadership in announcing his support.

“John Lowes has served our community with integrity for more than two decades and has proven himself to be a capable and trusted leader,” Quakenbush said. “As Chief Deputy, he has played a central role in leading our department and ensuring we remain focused on transparency, accountability, and keeping Hamilton County safe. I am confident he is the right person to lead this office into the future.”
Lowes said he is grateful for Sheriff Quakenbush’s endorsement and the opportunity to continue serving the community.
