Sheridan’s music program held its Winter Concert on Thursday, Dec. 4. This annual event filled the Sheridan Auditorium with audiences for both the Middle School performance at 6:45 p.m. and the High School performance at 7:30 p.m. Families and community members came out to show their support and celebrate all the hard work the Sheridan musicians do.
The Middle School Beginning Band kicked off the evening, as they performed their very first concert ever. Students picked up their instruments in September, so this performance truly marked their growth, confidence, and teamwork. Their set featured classics such as “Jingle Bells,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “Dreidel, Dreidel,” “Holiday Sampler,” and “A Christmas Sleigh Ride.”
The 7th and 8th Grade Advanced Band followed with an impressive program showcasing their accelerated skill. Their set included “Epic Battle 3000,” “Anasazi Legend,” “March Onward,” “Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” Their blended performance featured holiday selections and more challenging pieces. The more challenging pieces gave the audience a preview of the music they will play for the ISSMA Band Contest in the spring.
Later in the evening, the High School took the stage. They began with the Jazz Band, which featured performances such as “Killer Joe,” “Night Train,” and “Frosty the Snowman.” Soloists included Devyn Pewarski, Teddy Cooper, Lyzz Powers, Micah Smoot, and Avery Garrett.
The evening concluded with the High School Concert Band. They performed powerful pieces such as “Fanfare on ‘Joy to the World,’” “Eagle Mountain Overture,” and “Carol of the Bells.” This group truly demonstrated their musical maturity and readiness for the ISSMA competitions later this school year.
Overall, the Sheridan Middle and High School Bands delivered a memorable evening filled with holiday cheer, pride, and, of course, music. Congratulations to all students and directors on a successful concert.
