INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Get ready to fill up the gymnasium because it’s time for Indiana high school boys basketball.
On Friday, fans can tune into WISH-TV’s sister station, MyIndy-TV 23, at 7:30 p.m. to see the North Central Panthers square off against the Carmel Greyhounds.
On Saturday join MyIndy-TV 23 at 6 p.m. to see Fort Wayne Bishop Luers against Brebeuf in the Breakaway Classic at the Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. That game is followed by Avon against West Lafayette Harrison.
ISC Sports Network’s Greg Rakestraw stopped by Daybreak on Thursday to preview the games.
Rake’s Take: North Central vs. Carmel
Rakestraw says both North Central and Carmel are off to a good start, both sitting at 3-0 on the season.
“North Central is a team that suffered some pretty significant gradation losses and again we’re now in an era where players can kind of move around from schools to school a bit and so really North Central brought back really only thee or four guys that saw significant minutes and were kind of in supporting roles last year and they’re off to a 3-0 start,” said Rakestraw.
Since it’s the beginning of the season, Rakestraw says that he isn’t sure that there is a standout team yet.
“There’s a lot of very good teams and true teams that play team basketball. I think both of these teams are in that category.”
Rake’s Take: Breakaway Classic
The inaugural Breakaway Classic will host eight schools that combined have eight sectional and two regional titles over the past two seasons.
“The storyline here isn’t just the teams, it’s the venue. You know, we’ve got so many great places to play basketball around the area. Sometimes the Coliseum gets overlooked,” said Rakestraw.
