The Hamilton Heights boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday at its own Holiday Invitational.
The Huskies beat McCutcheon 64-42 in the consolation game of the event. Heights led 12-8 after the first quarter, then powered through the second period, outscoring the Mavericks 25-11 for a 37-18 halftime lead. A 14-7 fourth quarter sealed the game for the Huskies.
Three Heights players reached double-digit scoring, led by Rees Knapp’s 17 points. Jackson Mikesell scored 16 points and Jack Kakasuleff scored 15 points. Mikesell made it a double-double with 12 rebounds and Will DeStefano collected seven rebounds.
Freshman Gavin Lucchesi added eight points. Austin Day dished out four assists.
In their morning game, the Huskies fell to Covenant Christian 75-53. The Warriors led 21-19 after one quarter, then pulled away in the second period by outscoring Heights 18-4 to lead 39-23.
Kakasuleff scored 18 points, with Knapp contributing 14 points. Caleb Sullivan had three rebounds.
Kakasuleff was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the event.
The Huskies are 1-7 and are idle until Jan. 9 when they host Northwestern.
