Carmel’s girls team finished in third place at the Walt Raines Classic, which took place Saturday, Dec. 27 at Franklin Community.
The Greyhounds played Class 3A No. 7 Jennings County, falling to the Panthers 49-37. Jennings County jumped out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead, then extended its advantage to 28-14 by halftime.
The Panthers led 37-23 after three periods. Carmel scored 14 points in the fourth, with Sydney Bonds adding seven points.
Bonds finished as the Greyhounds’ leading scorer with 15 points. Bella Ramsey was next with eight points.
Carmel rolled through the third-place game, overwhelming South Bend Washington 73-23. The Hounds led 25-6 after one period and 46-10 at halftime; the entire second half was played under a running clock.
All 11 players that took to the floor for the Greyhounds scored at least two points. Ramsey led the way with 16 points, followed by Bonds with 12 and Taylee Fisher with 11. Natalie Whelan-Edwards had eight points, with Maddy Wallace, Ella Weaver and Catherine Bassi all scoring five.
The Greyhounds are 7-6 for the season and play Friday at Hamilton Southeastern.
