CARMEL – The Carmel girls wrestling team won a dual meet over Fishers Wednesday, 53-12 on Bill Shepherd Court at the Eric Clark Activity Center.

All but one of the matches were decided by fall or forfeit. The Greyhounds got victories by fall from Laila Mack (140 pounds), Daniela Ramirez-Zarete (155), Tess Seif (110) and Ana Penquite (125). Grace Sharp won the 120-pound match by a technical fall.
Ramirez-Zarate and Sharp are state-ranked wrestlers, along with 190-pounder Josie Belloti, who won by forfeit.
“The three state-ranked wrestlers and our teams has 19 girls on it this year,” said Carmel coach Josh Baxter. “We had seven last year. You see a lot of growth and there’s a bright future here with Carmel girls wrestling.”
The Tigers’ two victories came from Isabelle Denney at 235 and Jamariah Patton at 135, both by fall.
The two teams wrestled exhibition matches following the conclusion of the varsity meet. Masha Newsome won at 120 for Carmel, while Amaiya Howard (125), Patton (130) and Anjali Dhanda (140) won for Fishers.
