The Carmel boys basketball team won both of its games at the Paul Loggan Memorial Tournament this week at North Central.
The Class 4A No. 7 Greyhounds started on Monday by beating defending 4A state champion Jeffersonville 55-43. The two teams were tied at the end of the first quarter (16-16) and at halftime (27-27), with Cash Daniels scoring eight points in the first half. Ben Bremer made a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers.
Carmel took control in the third period, outscoring the Red Devils 18-5. Evan Harrell scored nine points in the third, with Bremer making two more triples. The Hounds added 10 more points in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.
Harrell finished with 15 points, while Bremer’s four 3s translated into 12 points. Daniels scored eight, while Julian Vogt and Aiden Dickerson both contributed six points.
Carmel returned to North Central on Tuesday to play Lake Central and won that game 58-45. The Hounds led 14-9 after the first quarter and 25-21 at halftime.
Both teams scored 18 points in the third, which included six points from Harrell. But Carmel ran away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Indians 15-6. Harrell added eight more points and finished with 20 points overall.
Daniels and Vogt both scored 13 points.
The Greyhounds are still unbeaten for the year at 7-0. Carmel travels to Cathedral on Friday; the Irish are the No. 1 team in Class 3A.
