A few weeks ago, members of Carmel Fire Department (CFD) completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training hosted by Fishers Police Department and the Hamilton County CIT Committee. This intensive week-long training focused on critical topics such as mental illness in adults and children, PTSD, self-care, addiction, and substance abuse disorders, active listening, and de-escalation techniques.
CFD now has over 30 firefighters CIT-trained, strengthening the department’s ability to provide safe, compassionate, and effective care to individuals in crisis.
Also participating were partners from Hamilton County Police & Fire agencies, IU Health PD, and Hamilton County Dispatch.
The CIT program is a key part of CFD’s mission to take care of the community with empathy and professionalism, ensuring first responders are equipped to handle mental health emergencies with the utmost care.
