CARMEL – A few days after meeting at the Shamrock Duals, the Fishers and Carmel boys wrestling teams had another showdown on Thursday, this time on the Greyhounds’ Bill Shepherd Court at the Eric Clark Activity Center.

Thursday’s dual meet between the two squads was a spirited one and it finished with the Tigers winning 34-24. Fishers won the first four matches, then absorbed a Carmel run of seven consecutive match victories before the Tigers finished the meet with the last three wins.
When the teams met at the Duals, the Greyhounds won 40-30 in a dual that Fishers coach Cameron Diep said was “ a little wonky.”
“We wrestled half [junior varsity] and they did the same thing so extra guys could get matches,” said Diep. “But tonight was varsity versus varsity.”
The Tigers’ lightweights set the tone, with 106-pounder Nick Molter and 126-pounder Will Hruskoci both winning by technical fall. Seth Lamb won at 120 by major decision, with Bryce Rogers picking up a decision at 113.
“I think our guys are really gritty,” said Diep. “We are pushing the pace, which is what we preach in the [practice] room, like, if guys are tired, smell blood and get after it. I think we wrestled well.”
Those early matches gave Fishers a 17-0 lead. Carmel came back to win the next seven matches and go up 24-17. Elliott Leonard won at 138 by tech fall and Tyler Elliott got a major decision at 144.
Brock Raasch started the run with a 1-0 decision victory at 132, picking up an escape point in the second period. Jaxen Timmon (150), Braydon Mack (157) Jordan Jay (165) and Harrison Grant (175) all got decision wins.
Grant won after trailing at the start of the third period but won 12-11; a takedown in the final period helped send him to victory. At 165, Jordan Jay and Fishers’ Carter Fraley battled to overtime; Jay won the match with a takedown in the sudden-victory OT.
The Tigers’ Camden Funk won by fall at 190, then Julian Burgett scored a tech fall at 215 to push Fishers in front 28-24. At 285, Ryan Dungee won by fall over Carmel’s Will Massey, who was wrestling up from 215 pounds.
“There was a lot of fight from a lot of guys,” said Greyhounds coach Kyle Ayresman. “When we’re down four, Will Massey’s one of our senior leaders and I think it’s in our best favor to bump him up to heavyweight to try to go out and get a W for us. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out for us.”
Both teams are wrestling in tournaments this weekend. Fishers travels to Calumet for the Chris Traicoff Memorial Invitational, while Carmel will compete in the Perry Meridian Falcon Duals.
