University’s boys picked up their first win of the season Tuesday evening, rolling to an 81-19 win over Herron at The U Center.
All 13 Trailblazers who suited up scored, led by 13 points from Blake Gray and Faisal Mohamud and 12 from Joshua Henderson.
Balanced scoring was a theme throughout the game for University. Five different players scored University’s first five field goals as the Blazers raced to an 11-4 lead midway through the opening quarter. University led 19-4 after the opening quarter with no player scoring more than four points.
Peter Morales hit a three pointer at the second quarter buzzer to send University to the locker room with a 43-8 lead that activated the running clock for the entire second half. Herron made just 2 of 19 first half shots and turned the ball over 18 times.
University shared the ball throughout the game, racking up 27 assists on 35 made field goals. Gray led with six assists and Jaxen Bennett added five. The Trailblazers committed just five turnovers in the game.
The Trailblazers are now 1-1 on the season and are back in action Friday night at home as they open up Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference-North play when they host Seton Catholic.
